The work was never generating.
It's keeping it one world.

A generation ago, the expensive thing in a film was a frame. Every shot cost film stock, a crew, a day of light. Scarcity kept your world coherent — you couldn't afford to redraw the hero forty different ways. That world is gone.

Today a director can conjure forty versions of a shot before lunch. Costume, set, lighting, face, palette — all fluid, all cheap, all infinite. And infinity drifts. Ask a model for the same character twice and you get cousins. Ask for the same location across ten scenes and the light wanders, the walls change, the mood slips. The thing that used to be free — continuity — is now the hardest thing in the building.

Generation got cheap. Consistency got scarce.

Every tool in this space races to generate more: more takes, more variants, more raw possibility. Almost none of them help you keep it coherent — to make the thousandth frame still belong to the first, across sequences and re-generations and the months it takes to finish, with a dozen people all pulling on the same world.

We think that's the real product. Not another generator — a design system. The place your world is defined once and propagates everywhere.

A design system, but for what you generate

Front-end teams solved a version of this years ago. You don't hand-pick a hex code on every button — you define a token, and it cascades. Change the token, and the whole product follows. That's what a design system is: a single source of truth that propagates.

aether does that for media. It breaks your script and your ideas into concepts — characters, locations, looks, palettes, props — and lets you curate them into tokens. Pin a value. Inherit it down a sequence. Conform a hero prop to a canonical reference. Then the system rides into every prompt and every render, so consistency is by construction, not by luck or by a continuity spreadsheet.

What we believe

Concepts, not prompts. A prompt is a guess you retype forever. A concept is defined once and reused everywhere. Your production should draw from a library it owns, not from the phrasing someone remembered to paste.

The cascade is the point. Pin, inherit, conform. When the canonical changes, everything downstream changes with it. Consistency you don't have to police, because it propagates.

Honesty about uncertainty is a feature. When a script only implies a location, or two headings are the same place, or a prop might be one radio or three — we say so, out loud. A tool that reads your screenplay earns trust by showing its seams, not hiding them.

Curation is the last mile — and it keeps the receipts. The machine proposes; you commit. When you decide, it's a real decision: versioned, replayable, with likeness consent and model + prompt lineage attached. But you're choosing between options that already agree with your world, not refereeing chaos.

Why "aether"

The old physicists imagined the æther as the invisible medium light moved through — the thing that made everything else cohere. They were wrong about the physics and right about the metaphor. Every production already has an aether: the shared, mostly invisible system that keeps its world one world. Usually it lives in someone's head, a Slack thread, and a folder nobody trusts. We're making it real — legible, durable, and yours.
